Yesterday we hosted the BOP Pennant finals and out of the 5 divisions competing we had 4 finalists and won the lot – this is an unprecedented achievement in Bay Golf and one we can all be proud of

This is how I saw the day

Intermediate

Dominated the foursomes and held a 3-0 lead into the break – with just 2 single wins required in the afternoon the team always looked comfortable

Congratulations to Player/Captain Wayne Rasmussen  - this is 3 titles for this team in the last 4 years

Senior A

Led the foursomes 2-1 and completely dominated the singles 5 -1 , this was a one sided victory for Player/Captain Tristan Walker

Championship Ladies

Also led 2-1 in the foursomes but found themselves in a real battle in the afternoon singles. Single wins to Karen Waerea and Materere Stockman meant the team needed just one more point out of the last 2 matches , however, when Heather Breingan's opponent made a ridiculously good up and down on the 17th to go 1 up the pressure really came on, then Tauranga’s No 1 put her tee shot to 10  feet on 17 and it looked as though Tauranga were going to spoil the party . A superb tee shot to 5 feet from Omanu No 1 Aroha Tito who then calmly slotted the birdie putt turned the match back in Omanu’s favour.  A gutsy final hole win from Heather for a half point and with Aroha 1 up playing 18 the match was Omanu’s . Congratulations to Captain Christine Sigley

Championship Men

14 years is a long time to wait to win this one but that’s how long it's been since Omanu won the top prize in men’s golf . 2–1 up in the foursomes and early wins to Paul Crone and Sean (Bacon) Campbell in the singles ensured an easier ride for the rest of the team. Mark Kiwi and Tawera Williams secured enough points to take the pennant which allowed Jordan Golding and Hayden White to finish up early with halves. Congratulations to Captain Ron Sisson .

Outstanding achievement by all 4 teams and well celebrated last night in true Omanu style

Special mention to Jason and his team - the course was in amazing condition and achieved high praise from Bay Golf and the players. To the volunteers who helped on the day - you did a great job, big thanks for that and last but not least the supporters - I know the players really appreciated you being there
