A not at all dreary, February
Hello to one and all.
Hopefully this finds you
all well and rested from the holiday period, to those still on holiday…lucky
buggers.
Just before we get onto
what’s going on in February, congratulations to the winners (yes plural) of
this year’s Summer Cup. It was shared between David Parsons and Ross Megson.
For those who weren’t aware the Summer Cup was held over 6 rounds with the best
4 counting.
Something else that has
been running alongside the Summer cup is the Summer Skins (your best 2 Stableford
scores from the Summer cup are added together and then the best top 10 combined
scores will compete in the Summer Skins)
The results are in and
those of you who have qualified, will be (or already have been) contacted and
will be teeing off in two groups of 5, for 9 holes. Each Skin is worth $40 and
the last hole is worth $80, so as you can see, a competition well worth being
in. Tee off for the first group will be 3:00pm this Saturday 7th
Feb, from the first tee.
The following weekend,
Saturday the 14th, will be the official opening day for the Men’s
section of Omanu golf club. We will not
only be running the Hay Trophy, which has become the default opening day
trophy, but will also be doing a teams event. The team competition will be in
the form of a Yellow Ball comp. Each 4 will be given a Yellow ball by the
Starters, starting from the lowest handicapper in the group, this ball will rotate
round the 4 with each score from the Yellow Ball counting towards the team
score and your individual Stableford
score. Clear as mud?? There will be instructions handed out with each Yellow
Ball. You don’t have to put together teams beforehand, your team will be the 4
you play in.
There will also be a
complimentary sausage sizzle at the 10th hole, plus two lovely
ladies will be doing the rounds with the beer cart.
We haven’t had an official
opening day for the men’s section for quite some time now, so it would be great
to see as many of you as possible out there.
The club champs start the
weekend following opening day, good luck to all.
Good luck to those in the
Skins, as for the rest, like me… we’ll have try harder next Summer, plus we
have an initiative starting in March were we get another chance to compete for
a bit more(quite a bit more) than the usual haggle, anyway more on that
later…watch this space…
Alastair Reed, Men’s
Captain

It's good sportsmanship to not pick up lost golf balls
