Decadent December

Ho Ho Ho and a Merry Christmas to all of you.

Just a quick note to everyone regarding the goings on in December and Jan.

As I write this there are still roughly 30 spots available in Saturdays Ham tournament, so don’t miss out, if you haven’t got your name down yet, make sure you do. It’s only a $10 entry fee and everyone gets a prize, the worst you can do is get $25 worth of bacon and very nice bacon it is too, I know this, because that’s all I could get in Wednesdays ham tournament. We will be running 4 divisions this Saturday.

It’s also important for you to attend this tournament because it’s the clubs way of giving back to you, the regular Saturday players, after all you have been contributing to it all year. It would be fantastic to see a full field.

After Saturday we will be going to 1 tee starts and they will last through to the 10th of Jan, the 2 tee starts return on the 17th of Jan

The summer cup started last week and don’t forget that we will also be running the summer skins at the same time.

As this is my last missive for the year, I just like to take the opportunity to thank a few people, firstly thanks to Barry, Wai and Barry Keast for all the help they have given me throughout the year, it has made the daunting prospect of being the men’s captain a lot less so.

Secondly I would like to thank the men’s committee for all their help, especially Cyril for all his work organising the starting on Saturdays, having done the job myself I know how hard it is to get starters. We are still on the lookout for one or two more committee members, so if you are keen, please come and see me or one of the other committee members.

Actually, this gives me an opportunity to mention a new system we will be introducing next year regarding starting on Saturday’s. A roster system is going to be introduced where all regular Saturday players (of which there are about 160) will be rostered to do starting duty. You will be drawn in pairs meaning that you will only have to do starting once every 80 weeks, if you are unable to do your week for whatever reason then it will be up to you to arrange a replacement. We (the committee) felt this is a far preferable arrangement to charging extra for the haggle and then paying someone to do the starting, the current system of asking for volunteers simply isn’t working. Anyway, more on this later…

Finally I would like to thank you the members of the men section for not making my life too difficult (although after reading what you just have, that may change  J) and I look forward to next year

Have a very Merry Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year

 Alastair Reed, Men’s Captain
